Some are more familiar with the word value chain that value stream. But that is nearly the same. When you have a chain of activities some of them are value adding and some are not value-adding. You and your employees can find the non-value adding activities (= waste) and remove them in a systematic way. It can be done by Value Stream Mapping and I must say it don´t work just to say: “We look for waste every day”. You have to do it in a systematic way. And you have to deal with the waste in a systematic way.
What is non-value adding?
When you have to treat a sick animal it is needed, but actually it is non-value adding activity. You could create more value, if you don´t have to use time to treat animals.
When you must use time to look for tools somebody left in the wrong place, it is a non-value adding activity and it is not needed.
