It is gold to see waste!
A young guy is driving into a gate. The wall is destroyed and the wagon has been broken. It’s pretty annoying – for all parties. The poor young man was fed up – and embarrassed. He does not feel any success that day. The story could have ended there – perhaps after an overhaul of the employer. But because they have a Lean culture at the farm, was the accident seen as an opportunity for improvement.
The waste is for improvement
We talk about why this error could happen and how to avoid it again.
They had more ideas:
- Instruction and training can be done better and more intensively.
- There can paint white stripes on the ground.
- Better light in the barns
- They could remove some trees, so you can back straight.
Instead of taunting the young employee will they jointly realized that if they improve conditions at all three gates, they can all save a lot of time and avoid collisions in the future. That is Lean culture!
