Lean culture – is it hot air?
It is not so easy to see what we mean by a Lean culture. Therefore, I will give an example:
A young employee is driven into a gate. The masonry is destroyed and the trailer has been skewed. It is quite annoying – for all parties. The poor young man was well tired of it – and embarrassed. He doesn’t feel like any success that day. The story could have ended there – perhaps after reprimand from the employer. But because they have a Lean culture on the farm, the failure was seen as an opportunity for improvement.
We therefore talked about why this mistake could happen and how to avoid it again. There are several ideas or it:
- Instruction and training can be done better and more intensively.
- White driving strips can be painted in front of the gate.
- Better light in the buildings they have to back into.
- Felling some trees so you can back straight in.
Instead of mocking the young employee, they jointly find that if they improve conditions at all three gates, they can all save a lot of time and avoid collisions in the future. It’s Lean culture!
